'Will never compromise in education': Education Minister

Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro inaugurated a food-processing unit and a two-day seminar on 'Gender & Racial Discrimination- The Paradigm of Women's Vulnerability' at S Kula Women College (SKWC) here on Friday.
Speaking at the function as Chief Guest, Okendro said that the government is aiming for a total reformation in the present education system and it will never compromise when it comes to promotion of education.
In this venture for making Manipur a happening place for education, comments and feedbacks from the public is important.
Already the ministry had launched an official website and public can send their feedbacks and suggestions through it, the Minister said, while appealing to the people to wait for around 2-3 years to witness a visible change in the education scenario in Manipur.

While admitting that there is no proper planning and maintenance of infrastructure in most of the colleges in Manipur, the Education Minister Okendro informed that the government of Manipur is set to establish on college for women in each district of the state in accordance to the latest all India educational norms.
The state government will also break the culture of establishing educational institutions around the capital city, Imphal.
Observing that promotion of education can bring peace and harmony among the plain and hill people, the Education Minister noted that people from remote areas specially the hilly districts are not able to afford the expenditures incurred while studying in educational institutes at Imphal.
So, for the convenience of such students, there is the need for proper distribution of educational institutions in the state.
"The present status of education in Manipur is in a critical condition.
Apart from lack of required infrastructure, there is no regular Principal in any of the colleges in Manipur", the Minister acknowledged, and assured that the government would do the needful to cope with the situation.
Touching in the topic of the seminar, the Minister observed that women may be regarded as mothers, but there is gender discrimination against them.
Delivering the Presidential address, MLA of Nambol A/C Nameirakpam Loken drew the attention of the Education Minister and said that even though the government is unable to approve SKWC as a full fledged government college, at least one lecturer from each of the departments of the college should be approved considering the sufferings of the teachers.
Earlier, speaking as one of the Guests of Honour of the function, MLA of Karong A/C Dr Alexander Pao contended that SKWC is one of the best colleges in Manipur and it is also the only educational institute that has been awarded A-Grade by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) .
Dr Birendrakumar, Principal SKWC; Prof.Amar Yumnam, Dean, School of Social Science, Manipur University; Prof.Ajanta Borgohain Rajkonwar and others attended the function.
