23 fresh cases in Ukhrul

Ukhrul, May 06 2021:
In what can be termed as possibility of community spreading of Covid-19 in Ukhrul, another 23 persons including 11 CAPF personnel newly tested positive for the virus on the frst day of the ongoing 10-day long lockdown here on Tursday.
According to an ofcial source, out of the 23 fresh patients, 11 are CAPF personnel and 12 are local civilians who underwent testing at the screening centre at Ukhrul District Hospital (UDH) .
Earlier in the day, only nine positive cases were confrmed but the numbers grew as reports of positive cases continued to emerge.
Among the new patients, fve are from areas already under containment zone, the source said.
Ukhrul district has witnessed an exponential increment in the daily cases since March 23, indicating a high possibility of community spread of the malaise.
As per an ofcial data made available to The People's Chronicle, the district has recorded a total cumulative number of 813 positive cases of Covid-19 so far.
Out of this, 461 are returnees from outside the district, and the rest local transmission cases.
Meanwhile, following the detection of the new cases, the district magistrate has contained fve new residential areas with immediate efect.
It may be recalled that the district is currently under a total lockdown as a move to contain the rapid surge of cases which is feared a community transmission.
The lockdown has been initiated and enforced by Tangkhul Coordination Forum on Covid-19 (TCFC) from May 5 midnight.
