Imphal, June 03 2014:
In what could be a disgrace for the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), all three mortuary freezers of the hospital are now defunct causing foul smell from dead bodies in and around the mortuary complex.
According to reports, one of the three mortuary freezers of RIMS has a capacity of keeping three bodies, while the other two have a capacity of holding six bodies each.

The small freezer has remained defunct for the last 10 years, while the medium freezer has gone out of service since one year and the largest freezer has remained defunct since last three months.
The RIMS authorities have spent several lakhs of rupees in procuring such mortuary freezers, but these costly equipments are now rendered useless at RIMS mortuary.
Postmortem examinations of important cases are now being conducted at JNIMS Mortuary due to the failure of all mortuary freezers at RIMS.
