Imphal, December 02 2011:
Denouncing it as an act of cowardice, many social organizations have come out strongly against the incident of killing of rickshaw driver Md Kora in a bomb blast triggered near the main gate of Manipur Sangai Festival at Hafta Kangjeibung on November 30 .
Five social organizations, namely, Indigenous Pangal Cultural Organisation (Haoreibi Makha Leikai), Haoreibi Socio-Economic & Cultural Organisation (Haoreibi Makha Leikai), Lilong Mairenkhun Makha Youth Development Organsiation, Progressive Library and Youth Development Organisation (Lilong Bazar) and Rural Organisation for Social Elevation (Moijing) observed that they would recite Koran to evoke curse on the perpetrators of the crime.
Bargaining the life of a poor rickshaw driver for Rs 20 is not acceptable.
Forcing Md Kora to carry the bomb has shown how the perpetrators look down upon such poor people who would not be able to retaliate, the five social organizations said, while questioning 'what goal are they going to achieve through such acts of cowardice ?" The five organizations also called upon the people to think over what would happen to the three wives and five children left behind by Md Kora.
On the other hand, it is unfortunate that none came to the rescue of Md Kora, while he was lying helpless with both his legs severed in the blast.
Md Kora could have been saved, had he taken to the hospital in time instead of subjecting to questioning over almost half an hour by the police.
The clarification of Tourism Commissioner KK Chhetry that the Ambulance driver was not has only added salt to the wound of the people, the five social organisations said and questioned why can't another vehicle be arranged for Md Kora to the hospital? Demanding an explanation from the group or individual responsible for the blast within 7 days from today, the five social organizations announced that in case of failure, Koran would be recited to evoke curse against the perpetrators on December 9 after the Friday prayer session.
