Further remand for rape accused

Irate people and womenfolk tried to storm Cheirap Court complex today morning demanding capital punishment for rape accused Ahbujam' Tombisana, the owner of a boarding cum coaching centre where he allegedly raped a minor victim, when he was produced before the Court in connection with the case.
Abujam Tombisana (45) s/o (L) Thabal of Samurou Awang Leikai had been lodged in police custody till today after he was produced before the Duty Magistrate Imphal West on the evening of August 29 evening.
From the early morning, a large number of angry locals garnered at the Court complex after getting information that the accused will be produced before Special Court POCSO Imphal West today.
The rape accused was brought to Cheirap Court complex under heavy security by the IO.
When he was brought out, the irate locals tried to attack him but their attempt was thwarted by police personnel and the accused was rushed inside the Court room.
During the hearing today, the IO of the case produced A Tombisana along with a prayer for additional 4 days remand in police custody for further investigation of the case.
The IO, through the APP, submitted that on August 29, the father of the minor victim lodged a written complaint before Wangoi PS stating that his daughter was staying in the boarding cum coaching centre run by A Tombisana in preparation for the HSLC examination and during her stay at the said boarding, the accused had committed repeated sexual assault on her, from March 13, 2018, by threatening that she would fail in HSLC examination otherwise.
The accused also warned the minor not to disclose the act to anyone.
The incident was disclosed by the victim to her parents on August 28 and hence a case was taken up by Wangoi PS against the rape accused who was later arrested by police.
It was also submitted that the medico legal examinations of the victim girl and the accused were also conducted at RIMS Forensic Medicine and the victim's statement was recorded as well.
The IO further submitted that during the interrogation of the accused, he admitted to the charges levelled against him.
As his further statement is required, the IO prayed for additional 4 days police custody remand of the accused.
The Court expressing satisfaction with the prayer remanded A Tombisana to 4 more days in police custody.
Meanwhile the irate locals who were pushed back up to the Court complex main entrance gate, shouted slogans demanding befitting punishment of the accused.
When Tombisana was being led towards the police bulletproof vehicle from the Court room, they tried to attack him again.
They blocked the vehicle and some people even climbed up on the bonnet of bullet proof vehicle on which the accused was being transported.
However, a large number of police personnel were finally able to push back the agitating crowd and make way for the police vehicle which sped away from the Court complex.
The mother of the minor victim fainted during the scuffle with the police personnel at the Court complex.
