Imphal, October 30 2012:
It is futile on the part of a particular community trying to destroy the territorial integrity of Manipur and form another state of their own, exclaimed MLA K Meghachandra, who has been recently inducted as a Parliamentary Secretary.
He was speaking on the occasion of Mera Houchongba festival celebration held at Kangla hall here today.
The celebration was held under the aegis of Kangla Religious Committee.
Delivering the presidential address of the function, Meghachandra stated that Mera Houchongba festival is being celebrated in the state since the time of Ibudhou Nongda Lairen Pakhangba.
The festival serves as a means to strengthen the bond of brotherhood among the people of the hills and the plains.
He further stated that no matter how much a particular community tries, it would be impossible for that community to destroy the oneness of the state and create a separate state out of Manipur.
Still then, the people of the state need to stay alert from attempt being made to disintegrate Manipur from outside.
Dr Chaltonlien Amo, Chairman of Hill Areas Committee was also present on the occasion as Guest of Honour.
Exchange of gifts between the hill and the plain people marked the event.
