Imphal, May 29 2018:
The National Sports University Haraothen Protection Committee (NSUHPC) has condemned the plan to base some courses related to National Sports University (whose foundation was laid in Manipur) as an off campus at Lucknow, UP .
A press release issued by general secretary of NSUHPC Kh Alexander Singh warned the authorities concerned against initiating any related courses of NSU in any part of the country until the National Sports University in Manipur becomes a full fledged university.
The four courses related to NSU, which was introduced in the Rajya Sabha as part of the National Sports University Bill 2017, namely Sports Science & Sports Medicine having 7 Departments, Sports Management & technology having 2 Depts, Sports Education having 2 Depts and Sports inter-disciplinary studies having 2 Depts, should not be opened at any parts outside the State, until and unless the courses are initiated at Manipur.
As the head office for the overall office lies in NSU Manipur the committee asked as to why there is the need to open the courses at other place of the country if the university is yet to become a full fledged varsity in the State.
The committee further demanded the State Govt to pressure the Central Govt to pass the NSU Bill during the monsoon Parliament session of the Lok Sabha while adding that all the politicians should also press the Central Govt to pass the said bill at the earliest.
It also warned that the committee along with the people will launch intense agitations if the State Govt fails to fulfil the said demands.
