Imphal, July 28 2013:
Members of Film Forum Manipur, Lainingthou Nongsaba Haraoba Committee, Kwakeithel Heinoukhongnembi and Kangleipak Women's Welfare Association joined in protesting State Government's decision to take over Sana Konung on the 36th day of protest meet today.
Talking to media persons on the sideline of the protest demonstration, Chairman of Film Forum Manipur L Surjakanta said that the State Government can take initiative to develop the Sana Konung, but not with the intention to evict the King from his Palace.
Nothing can replace the King's throne.
The King is still the customary head of the State, he asserted.
Decrying the Government's decision, Secretary of All Manipur Social Reformation and Development Samaj Th Ramani said, "I am 84 years old now.
I have witnessed many significant events of the State right from Japan War (World War-II).
I would like to see our King dwell in an elegant Palace before I leave this world" .
Participating in a similar protest meet yesterday, Ramani said that the Government should render all possible assistance to renovate Sana Konung instead of evicting the King from his Palace.
The King still administers the people on certain important subjects.
A living institution should not be forced to become a historical monument, she enjoined.
Ramani further demanded the State Government to withdraw its decision on Sana Konung before any untoward incident happens.
President of All Manipur Tammi-Chingmi Apunba Lup S Momon Leima stated that the Government's decision to take over Sana Konung is most unfortunate.
The Palace is regarded as a sacred place where Ibudhou Pakhangba dwells to look after the people of Kangleipak, she noted.
She further said that the Government plan's to evict the King from Sana Konung for development as a historical monument is quite condemnable as it breaches all traditions which have been observed by the ancestors since time immemorial.
