Imphal, May 28 2020:
The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) Manipur State has expressed concern over the likely conditions of the labourers post COVID-19 lockdown in the State.
In a press statement, BMS highlighted that the evacuation works of the State natives including labourers stuck at various parts of the country is indeed a very good initiative.
The Sangh however questioned how many migrant workers, with or without ILP pass, have been sent back to their native State(s) so far.
Being concerned with the recent news of migrant workers roaming in the streets of the valley sans ILP (Inner Line Permit) pass or any related documents, BMS sought an explanation from concerned authorities how did those migrant workers enter the State at such a crucial time.
While putting out a list of migrant workers who are registered with the State's Labour Department and permitted to work under few licence holding firms under Inter-State Migrant Workmen (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1979, BMS pointed out that the role of Labour Department is not only to provide Recruitment Licence to companies and be contented with some revenues but also to check the influx of migrants.
If migrant influx is not managed timely and effectively under relevant provisions, there will be numerous challenges post the lockdown, warned BMS while asking the authorities concerned to come out with a detail report which include exact figures of migrant workers who have been permitted entry into the State with date and time, numbers of migrant workers with licence including those currently working in the State and the ones who have left the State (with date and time) .
