A public discussion on "18th October 1948 Manipur - Manipur gi puwarida meeyamgi leingak lakhiba numit" organised jointly by Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK) and Kangleipak Womens' Welfare Association (KWWA) was held at the hall of MMRC park, Khangabok, Thoubal district today.
President of CCSK Arjun Telheiba, president of KWWA AK Memcha Leima, retired Political Science teacher Dr Indrakumar, chairman of KM Blooming Higher Secondary School Kh Menjor Mangang, reader CSSEIP, Department, MU Dr Th Bharat and Dr K Muktasana attended the event as presidium members.
The discussion highlighted the beginning of British Raj and subsequent World War II.
The gathering discussed and highlighted the roles of heroes of Manipur who fought the Bristish.
It remembered the contributions of Hijam Irabot.
It discussed the significance of Manipur Constitution Act 1947 .
After the Manipur Constitution Act, 1947 was enforced, in July 1948, the 53-member Legislative body of Manipur was elected under universal adult franchise.
The democratically elected General Assembly of Manipur began its service on 18th October, 1948 .
Speaking at the event, Arjun Telheiba urged people to look back at the time and agreement Manipur had signed when it merged with the Union of India on October 15, 1949 .
The Government of India is yet to keep its end of the agreement, he said pointing out various provisions under the agreement which are allegedly denied by the Government of India.
