Sadar Hills Civil Society Organizations including Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, KSO Sadar Hills, TSA Sadar Hills and KWU Sadar Hills on Thursday expressed deep concern over the horrible road condition of National Highways in the state.
Speaking to media persons on Thursday at Kangpokpi, Sadar Hills CSOs Secretary Information, Lamcha Chongloi said that it has been a matter of great concern to the public of Manipur that there is still the disgraceful condition of National Highways in state.
This is caused basically by the incompetency of the contractors.
He pointed out that there may be numerous reasons with PWD and BRO to explain why the National Highways in the state are different from those National Highways in other states.

However, to the non technical general public the main reason for the sorry state of National Highways in Manipur is the improper execution of works and bad maintenance of the highways, added Lamcha Chongloi.
He also said that it is evidently visible to the public that PWD/BRO is not taking up any prompt action to mend the potholes which could be done with a small amount.
The Sadar Hills CSOs Secretary Information further said that everybody knew and saw the works were not being executed in any part of our state as per specifications whether it may be under PWD, PMGSY or BRO.
Sadar Hills CSOs has been taking up the matter of road improvement in Manipur very seriously and it came to its notice that poor quality of work is due to award of work orders at the very low rate sometimes below schedule rate, asserted Lamcha Chongloi while adding that because of this work supervisor also fails to strictly control the quality of work.
Consequently, the public are losing their valuable money at the behest of the Engineers and the contractors Lamcha Chongloi added.
Therefore, the CSOs in Sadar Hills appeal to the prospective tenderers of National Highways not to quote unreasonably low rates to get the works in future while urging the engineers of PWD/BRO not to issue work orders at unreasonable low rate.
While resolving to firmly supervise any new work taken up on National Highways to ensure the contractors and engineers are not making fool of the public, Sadar Hills CSOs also cautioned that any contractor who obtains any work below schedule rates will not be allowed to execute the work so as to avoid poor quality workmanship.
