Huge cache of explosives seized

Imphal, December 21 2012:
A combined team of Imphal East and West Police Commandos have recovered a large haul of explosive materials allegedly meant for the banned People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) from a house in Khurai Chingangbam Leikai under Imphal East district today.
The recovered explosive materials were displayed before media persons at Imphal West Commando Complex, Minuthong today.
Briefing media persons, Dr S Ibomcha, DSP, Imphal West Commando, informed that based on specific input, a combined team of CDOs, Imphal West and Imphal East led by Inspector P John Singh, OC/CDO-Imphal West conducted cordon and search at the house of one Haorangbam Sharatchandra (58), s/o H Tombi of Khurai Chingangbam Leikai.
During the search, a huge number of explosive materials along with one Bajaj Super without registration number, which is suspected to be for use for fitting the explosives and two demand letters of PREPAK addressed to Dr Bilashini (Rs 10 lakh) and Dr Landhoni (RS 5 lakh), he said.
The seized explosives include three one and a half feet long finished pipe bombs; four 1 ft long explosive cakes (labeled as Charge Demolition M112); three transistors; two detonators with wires and eight batteries.
The DSP further informed that the main accused namely H Shanker was, however, not found at his residence so his father was taken into custody.
On verification, the father disclosed that the explosives items were brought and kept by his son and associates four days back.
The arrested father also revealed that the two bombs which exploded on December 19 near Panchayat Bhawan, Porompat have also been taken away from his house.
The scooter was procured by his son recently to be used for his nefarious activities.
The DSP claimed that the seized explosive materials were intended to be used for subversive activities in various parts of Imphal by PREPAK.
A criminal case has been registered at Porompat police Station and investigation is on, the police officer added.
