Imphal, February 21 2009:
Expressing concern over the death of Dr Th Kishan, SDO of Kasom Khullen, Ukhrul district and his two staff, and further sharing the grief of the victims' families, the United People's Democratic Party (UPDP) condemned the barbaric killing and asserted that it was against basic human rights.
Romeo Bungdon, general secretary of the UPDP stated that every human was to be given a chance to evict and correct himself/herself which was a basic human ethics.
Nevertheless, in this time of crisis and fiasco, UPDP asserted that the responsible government should neutralise this juncture of trauma by assuring and work out in spirit that the issue will be dealt and that such things should not happen in the future.
The UPDP, however, cautioned the Chief Minister and his colleagues to act with precautionary measures so as to prevent the lives of the lower unsecured employers and common citizens from danger.
And with such anti-social atmosphere prevailing in the state, the UPDP observed that lack of proper education at the grass root level was one of the main causes of such atmosphere.
In this regard, Romeo Bungdon held that education has to play a vital role to change Manipur though it may take even decades.
The UPDP also observed that violence and guns would only stimulate the situation into the worst stage and appealed to the citizens of Manipur to stay calm and work out mentally and educationally so as to maintain the peaceful co-existence of the people of the state.
