Awaas week observed

Awaas Diwas/Awaas Week was observed through video conferencing at the Office Chamber of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (RD & PR) Minister, Thongam Biswajit Singh today with the Union Minister of Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Food Processing Narendra Singh Tomar along with other Rural Development officers.
Speaking to media persons after attending the celebration Biswajit stated that the State Government is putting in all the efforts to complete the targeted number of houses to be built under Rural Housing Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) by 2022 .
Emphasising on the importance of celebrating Awaas Diwas, Biswajit said that it is being celebrated in commemoration of the launch of PMAY - G which aims to provide 'Housing for All' by 2022 .
PMAY-G aims at providing housing to all the houseless and those households living in a dilapidated houses.
The Minister maintained that the State Government is fully committed to fulfilling the Prime Minister's dream of New India, where every citizen of the country will have a house with basic amenities.
He further highlighted the progress of the Rural Housing Scheme, PMAY-G and said that in Manipur the targeted number of houses to be built under the Phase II for the year 2020-21 is 15842.So far 8444 out of the targeted number have completed the registration while the remaining 7398 is aimed to be completed by December, 2020.The households of the year 2020-21 were selected based on the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC).
The Minister said that for Phase II of the year 2019-2020 the target is 8900 out of which 8425 has been sanctioned.
The remaining 475 are set to be sanctioned by the end of this year.
Further, he said that 9526 houses- have been built under Phase 1 for the year 2016-17 to 2018-19 .
The target set for Phase 1 is 9740 out of which only 214 are to be covered and they will be covered by this month.
During the video conference the Minister was accompanied by the Commissioner-cum-Secretary, RD & PR, IAS, Nidhi Kesarwani and other officials of the department.
