Imphal, November 17 2015:
Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) has resumes its "suspended indefinite economic blockade" along Imphal-Jiribam road from Tuesday midnight.
The committee imposed the economic blockade to press for its long-pending demand for conversion of Imphal East's Jiribam subdivision into a full-fledged revenue district.
JDDC in a press note said that the strike was suspended at 6 am of November 9 in view of the Ningol Chakouba festival of the state.
The committee along with all communities of Jiribam and civil society organisations including local clubs has decided to resume the agitation.
The committee said people of Jiribam are dismayed with the state government's attitude of not fulfilling its repeated promise.
Sidelining the issue by the government for a long time without reasonable grounds has infuriated the people of Jiribam, said JDDC.
The committee said the indefinite economic blockade was suspended in view of Ningol Chakouba on November 13 .
The people have now lost faith in the government as they have been disappointed enough by it, the committee maintained.
