Works Minister assures tip-top Imphal-Mao road before Dec 15

Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar has assured that repairing of Imphal-Mao road to a tip-top condition would be completed by December 15 well ahead of the ASEAN Car Rally which will be coming along NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur road) .
The Minister gave the assurance while talking to mediapersons on the sideline of his inspection visit of the road today.
The Minister stopped all along the stretch of NH-2 where repairing work is in progress.
MLA Th Bishwajit; Principal Secretary (Works) Ram Muivah and Additional Chief Engineer Temba accompanied the Minister during the inspection tour.
The Works Minister informed that his inspection visit was in connection with the arrival of ASEAN Car Rally along NH-2 and the repairing and blacktopping of the road stretch is to be completed before arrival of the car rally.
He further informed that an amount of around Rs 10 crores have been sanctioned on November 3 for periodical repairing of the road stretch from Mao to Maram which is a distance of 23 kms.
Earlier, repairing of the road stretch was taken up by one private Company named HNK.
However, the work was cancelled and remained stalled for a short period.
Now all problems have been settled and the work will be started very soon.
Clarifying over the charges made by UNC in connection with alleged discrepancies in allocation of funds for development of hill districts as compared to plain districts, the Works Minister said that there is no favouritism on the part of the government in allocating funds for development process.
The funds released by the Cheque Drawal Authority are done after careful scrutiny of the work progress.
The Minister said that during 2010-11, the Works Department had provided a sum of Rs 6335 lakhs out of Rs 12,835 lakhs for SPA road works in five Hill Districts, which comes to 49.357% of the total fund allocated for the state.
