AMUCO observes 12th Protest Day

Remembering the protests which were held widely across the State against the Bangkok Agreement signed between NSCN-IM and Indian government in 2001 which allowed the extension of cease-fire agreement without territorial limits, All Manipur United Clubs Organization (AMUCO) observed the 12th Protest Day at its office at Kwakeithel Akham Leikai here today.
Speaking on the occasion, President of AMUCO KT Rahman said that this day is very significant in the history of Manipur.
Various social organizations including local clubs called a 66-hour general strike from this day in 2001 against the Bangkok Agreement.
People had come out to safeguard the territorial integrity of the State during the strike which ultimately led to the death of 18 people on June 18, 2001, he recalled.
He further said that AMUCO and UCM would jointly observe the 12th Great June Uprising and Unity Day on June 18 at Kekrupat to pay homage to the martyrs.

Rahman condemned the act of banning publicity of June 18 Observation by the Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur.
He also appealed to all to participate in the observation and reaffirm unity and strength of the people in safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur.
President of UCM Y Nabachandra said that people should know the significance of this day in the history of Manipur.
18 martyrs have laid down their lives for the cause of safeguarding the territorial integrity of the State, he contended.
