Imphal, December 12 2017:
Locals staged a sit-in protest at the Sawombung Gate community hall, located in Lamlai A/C, Imphal East over disagreement with a hospital management today.
Talking to media-persons, a visibly emotional protestor, Takhellambam Ong-bi Sunita asked how long Raj Medicity was going to hold back the allegedly lifeless body of her husband .
Sunita went on to say that she had managed to borrow Rs 1,50,000 to pay for the hospital charge and that she had told the hospital authority that she can pay the remaining due after the sorat ritual however the hospital had refused to accept her proposition .
Meanwhile, the hospital authority at the Raj Medicity which is located in North AOC, claimed in a statement that the family of Takhel-lambam Jarmenjoy, 55, had left the hospital on their own .
In a press meet held at the conference hall of the hospital today, medical supe rintendent Dr A Ibotombi informed the patient was admitted with symptoms of a BP stroke on November 13 and it was confirmed he had had a stroke after a CT scan .
"The patient, who is still alive, had a brief recovery but his condition worsened on November 26 and was put in the ICU," Dr Ibotombi said while adding, "BP patients usually take time to recover fully or hardly do so, yet Jarmenjoy’s condition had improved at the Raj Medicity and he is presently in the ICU."
While he has been undergoing treatment, his family left on December 10 and none of them has visited him again, Dr A Ibotombi added.
As treatment is not possible without consulting the family members and with the prevailing confusion, the hospital authority has been left with no option but to report the matter to the Imphal Police Station .
At the Sawombung Gate community hall, there was a different climate altogether.
The patient’s wife said her husband was admitted at the Raj Medicity after complaining of dizziness on November 13.She has been worried how long her husband is going to be in the ICU and the hospital is charging her .
While explaining the ordeals, she alleged that all that the hospital has been doing is charging her and even claimed that the ICU is located right next to a pharmacy.
But she has never been shown a medicine that’s prescribed for her husband.
Above all, Sunita said she is certain her husband is no more and added that the doctors have been keeping the liefeless body in the ICU intentionally.
