IGNOU holds 26th convocation

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Regional Centre Imphal joined the nation in the University's 26th convocation held today at Jina Hall of Asha-Jina Complex, North AOC.
The national level convocation was reportedly held simultaneously at IGNOU, Maidan Garhi complex, New Delhi with President of India Pranab Mukherjee and Minister of State for Human Resource Development Jitin Prasada as the chief guest and functional president respectively.
Speaking to Regional Centre convocation participants at Jina Hall, Education Minister M Okendro Singh officially declared Government of Manipur's plan for establishing a regional institute of IGNOU in the State.
Conveying that the State Government is aiming to produce fully trained teachers by 2015 for which intake capacity of BEd and DIET will have to be enhanced, the Minister affirmed that equal focus is for enabling State natives complete BEd and DIET courses under the IGNOU system of education.
Assuring that there would be no disparity between those who pass out from IGNOU or from Government institutions, he stated that IGNOU had been playing an important role in imparting education to every section of the society.
According to Regional Director (IGNOU) Dr S Dilan Singh today's event is the seventh such occasion for the Imphal Centre since its existence as a separate entity after partition from the Shillong-headquartered Regional centre in 1987 .
Out of 299 eligible to pursue various streams in PG/BA/MA courses, 99 of them are taking part in today's convocation, he said and regretted that IGNOU could not accommodate many other willing candidates in various courses due to infrastructure inadequacy.
