Senapati, November 11 2020:
Students from the hill areas of Manipur have sought intervention of tribal student bodies to minimize the inconveniences faced while seeking admission in DM University.
Parents and guardians who accompanied the candidates opined that the admission process has greatly inconvenienced the tribal students and added that many missed the opportunity to get admission due to poor management by DM university officials in issuing admit cards for entrance exams.
The admit cards were issued manually in limited number per day through token systems which created anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic, a student stated and lamented holding an entrance test on a day when highway bandh was imposed on NH-2(Imphal-Dimapur) road.
Another candidate said that since admit cards were issued in limited number, students from remote villages of Senapati, Tamenglong, Ukhrul and CCpur districts had to travel on hired vehicles the whole day and again wait for the next day or two.
The financial constraints mixed with the added fear of COVID-19 added to the travails, they said.
A disgruntled guardian suggested that such unorganized admission process needs to be corrected and reviewed by the University in the interest of students especially from hill districts of Manipur.
