Science motivation programme for students conducted

In a bid to promote scientific knowledge among school students, North East Institute of Science & Technology (NEIST) sub-station, a national research and & development institute of CSIR (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research) organized a lecture cum spot painting and essay competition programme at its Lamphelpat office here on Thursday.
Speaking about the objective of the programme, Principal Scientist of NEIST, sub-station Lamphelpat, Dr H Birkumar Singh said that NEIST is dedicated to impart the latest development on science and technology to all the groups of people specially students.
Considering the need for science and its applications in day-to-day life, the institute has been organizing science-based competitions for school students under a club called DNA for the last few years and it has got positive responses from students, scientists, school administrators and academicians alike.
Four resource persons namely Chief Scientist of CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat Dr B G Unni; Prof.B Manihar Singh of Life Science Department, Manipur University; H Nandiram Sharma, Retired HOD of Botany Department DM College of Science and Director of Manipur Science and Technology Council Th Surendranath Singh motivated the students who participated at the competition to inculcate innovative ideas by learning the knowledge of science.
Ricky Yumnam of Wangkhei High School; Bidyawar Huirengbam of Evergreen Flowers School and M Rojina Devi of Kakching High School secured first, second and third places respectively in the spot painting competition.
While in the essay competition, L Sonika Devi of Ningthoukhong High School; Th Sayaluxmi Devi of Wangkhei High School and L Sushima Devi of Kakching High School were respectively placed first, second and third positions.
