Kakching, May 08 2013:
Reacting against the decision of the State government to shift the surrendered cadres of KYKL (MDF) from the post of 20 Assam Rifles in Chandel to Khongjom, local womenfolk today took out a mass protest rally.
Spearheaded by Khongjom Circle Meira Paibi Forum along with various other organisations in Khongjom area, the protest rally was started from Khongjom Keithel and went up to Khongjom War Memorial Complex at Kheba Ching.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the protest demonstration, Secretary of Khongjom Circle Meira Paibi Forum Mutum ongbi Nirmala said that Khongjom is a historical place where brave sons of Manipur laid down their lives.
Every year, thousands of tourists and people from different parts of the state come here to pay tributes.
So, it is not a good decision on the part of the government to keep such surrendered UG cadres in Khongjom.
She further stated that the people of Khongjom Circle do not want the surrenderees to be shifted to Khongjom.
If the government fails to provide a written assurance in this regard by May 11, people of Khongjom area would be compelled to take up more stringent agitations, the Meira Paibi leader warned.
