Awareness programme on 'Child Rights Protection' held

Association for the Development of Indigenous Women and Child Care (ADIWCC) organised a one day awareness programme on "Child Rights Protection" at Taobam village, Noney district, today.
The opening session of the programme was initiated with a prayer by Gan Kamei, Pastor of Taobam village.
It was attended by Babuna Dangmei, District Child Protection Officer, Tamenglong; Lungganlung C Phaomei, Protection Officer (IC), DCPU, Tamenglong and L Robindro Singh, Legal cum Probation Officer cum Child Marriage Prohibition Officer, DCPU, Tamenglong as resource persons.
During the programme, the resource persons delivered lectures on "Salient Features of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015", "Adoption Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012" and "Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006' .
Babuna Dangmei said that 'No Violence against Children is Justifiable, and All Violence against Children is Preventable'.
While dealing with any children, the general principles of care and protection of children such as the Principles of presumption of innocence' and 'Principle of best interest of the child' should be the primary consideration.
Lunganglung Phaomei highlighted the 'Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012' which deals with sexual offences against persons below 18 years of age, who are deemed as children.
L Robindro Singh stressed on the objective of the 'Child Marriage Act' and mentioned that the Government of India enacted 'Prevention of Child marriage Act 2006' by replacing the earlier legislation of 'Child Marriage Act 1929' to eradicate child marriage from the society.
The 'One day awareness and sensitization programme on Child Rights Protection' was sponsored by the District Child Protection Unit, Tamenglong District, Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur.
Village authority, Church and women association leaders from across the Taobam Irang area attended the programme.
