Court grants bail to DESAM volunteers

Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East granted bail to six arrested members of Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), including its president, after they furnished a PR bond of Rs 10,000 each, today.
DESAM president, Salam Akash, vice president N Edison, Huidrom Johnson, Leishungbam Rajesh, Abujam Meiraba and Aribam Ronald, who were remanded to police custody till June 11, by CJM Imphal East yesterday in connection with vandalising National Sports University Administrative Block, were produced before the Court within 24 hours of their last appearance before the Court by Imphal police in connection with the case.
The 10 of the case (through the APP of the State) submitted that on June 1, at around 1 pm, K Radhakumar (Registrar of the National Sport University) reported that on the same day (at around 11.30 am) some unknown individuals destroyed the office equipment and properties of National Sport University which is temporary located at Manipur Olympic Bhavan Khuman Lampak and a case was registered regarding the incident.
During further course of investigation, footage of the incident were published and broadcasted in local electronic and print media On June 5, at around 4.30 pm, some unknown individuals who stormed the Chief Minister's bungalow protesting the possibility of shifting some courses of NSU to Lucknow, were detained for verification at Imphal PS and the six individuals were arrested in connection with the earlier registered case.
On the other hand, the counsel of the arrested individuals denied the charges and mentioned that there are no concrete evidences to prove the charges levelled against them and further prayed to discharge them from the liability of the case in the interest of justice.
After hearing the submission of the APP and the counsel of the arrested DESAM members, the Court passed an order to release the six individuals after furnishing a PR bond of Rs 10,000 each.
