In continuation of its welfare activities under Assam Rifles Civic Action Programme, Chandel Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South), dedicated perimeter fencing to All Tribal Women's Organisation (ATWO) at Nungourok village, Chandel district yesterday.
ATWO was formed in 2001 to fight cases of domestic violence against women and children and to extend possible protection and assistance to victims of domestic violence, especially in Chandel and Tengnoupal districts.
All Tribal Women's organisation has been a pioneer in providing valuable assistance to the affected women of domestic violence, in terms of financial rehabilitation, traumatic rescue, medical assistance, legal assistance and psychological support.
On the other hand, the team of 26 Sector Assam Rifles has also been extending possible support to the noble cause of the organisation in terms of facilitating skill development to the victims, scholarship to their children and absolute safety and security to the victims at the ATWO premises, said a statement of PRO IGAR (South) today.
The organisation had approached the Chandel Battalion for the construction of perimeter fencing.
The inauguration ceremony of perimeter fencing was attended by 27 villagers and victims.
The endeavour of AR received a huge appreciation from president ATWO, village Chief, and the local populace.
Such projects strengthen the bonds between security forces and local populace of the area, said the statement.
