One arrested for bank heist

Imphal, September 06 2021:
A team of CRPF personnel and Imphal West commando foiled a bank robbery attempt at Bank of Baroda FCI branch located at Sangaiprou, today and arrested one 40 years old man with lethal weapons and Rs 5 lakh in cash .
According to police, one of the customers alerted the CRPF personnel deployed at the bank branch about the entry of one armed individual inside the bank.
The information was passed on to the Imphal West Police Control Room at around 11.10 am.
On receiving the information, a team of Imphal West commandos rushed to the spot and arrested the person who attempted to rob the bank with the CRPF personnel.
The person was later identified as Thongam Rinkoo (40) s/o (L) Gyaneshor of Kwakeithel Soibam Leikai.
From his possession, Rs 5 lakh in cash, one pistol and a sword were seized.
On spot investigation, it was learnt that Thongam Rinkoo came in a Maruti Alto K 10 car with Manipur registration number.
After entering the bank, Thongam Rinkoo showed a demand note to the employees to co�operate with him and to remain silent.
He then threatened the Branch Manager and the Cashier of the Bank to hand over the money (Rs 5 lakh), said police.
The arrested person along with the seized items have been handed over to Lamphel police station.
