Senapati, March 06 2022:
The mortal remains of the BJP supporter, who was reportedly killed in firing by security personnel at 47/49 Ngamju village polling station under Senapati district on March 5, were taken to his native village after the post mortem conducted in Imphal.
A brief condolence service was held in honour of the deceased K Longvao Paoraih at Senapati Ground in the presence of Karong AC BJP candidate Yuh Jonathan Tao, district DC, SP and social leaders, apart from friends and relatives of Longvao.
During the programme, a villager, who was present during the incident, gave a full account of the incident.
The presiding officer and sector magistrate could not understand why the security personnel fired upon the BJP supporters, killing one of them and grievously injuring another.
The villagers were shocked at the manner in which the two victims were left to lie in a pool of blood and how the security personnel posted there on duty manhandled some women when they tried to help the victims.
The villagers demanded justice for the deceased and the injured person, who is battling for life, and they also demanded assistance to the women beaten up by the security personnel posted there.
DC Senapati Mahesh Chaudhari condoled the demise of the young student leader and assured to sit together with public leaders to discuss the steps to be taken regarding the incident.
R Yuh Jonathan Tao also expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and questioned on what ground the security personnel had to resort to bring that resulted in the killing the youth leader and injuring another youth.
The two youths were reportedly outside the polling booth when the security personnel opened fire at them without any knowledge of the presiding officer.
Blank firing or tear gas firing would have been appropriate to control even unruly crowd or if the condition compels, permission of presiding officer should be the first option, the BJP candidate said.
Women folks were also reportedly beaten up, some being hit with gun butts, when they tried to assist the duo lying in a pool of blood.
Such act cannot be accepted in a democratic country like India, he added.
Benjamin Banee, former minister, Benjamin Tao, exADC member and Asahrii Clement, president Poumai Naga Students Union, also spoke during the condolence service.
After the service at Senapati, K Longvao Paoraih's mortal remains were taken to Ngamju village around 3 pm .
