Under the vision of producing world class sportspersons, 20 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector invited a talent scouting team from Army Sports Institute, Pune and the team comprising four senior staff visited Chandel from November 10 to 14 last year and conducted a series of highly specialised tests on the grounds of Maha Union Public School in which nearly 300 young children participated, said AR PRO in a statement today.

In all 26 boys were shortlisted and after final analysis of their performance at Pune, 17 of them between the age group 10 to 12 have received call letters.
The boys are now on their way to Pune under the escort of 26 Sector Assam Rifles, said the PRO.
The young boys include Nagas.
Meiteis, Kukis and Meitei Pangals said the statement further.
During their stay at the sports institute, they will be provided free world class training infrastructure, boarding and lodging, free education till Class X and a career in the Army once they reach the age of 17 .
