NH 37 work in Tupul area resumes

After long layoff owing to land dispute and compensation issue in Tu pul area, construction work on NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam road) resumed from Friday after officials concerned held a joint meet.
Meanwhile, an official of National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) assured that construction work on NH-37 in Tupul area could be completed within the stipulated time if given the opportunity to work in a peaceful environment and there is no land dispute.
Construction work on NH-37 stopped for the last few months due to differences over the land compensation and agitation by affected villagers.
However, Noney DC Joseph Pauline Kamson convened a joint meet on Friday.
The meeting attended by Noney SP N Modhunimai, representatives of NHIDCL regional office Imphal, NHIDCL Noney GM (P) Col Sonal-chandra and representatives of contract agency Ganpati Builders reached an understanding to resume the road construction work without any obstruction.
Accordingly, machineries of contractor Ganpati Builders resumed hill cutting work with immediate effect from Friday.
After the meeting, DC Joseph Pauline Kamson led an eviction drive at different villages in Tupul area and vacated all the encroachers and illegally constructed structures.
During the meeting, an official of NHIDCL apprised government officials including DC Noney that the construction work on NH-37 in Tupul area stopped for some months due to protest by villagers over differences in land compensation.
The NHIDCL official also assured that construction of the road could be completed within the stipulated time if the disputed lands are given to NHIDCL in time and peaceful working atmosphere prevails in the area.
Meanwhile, DC Joseph Pauline Kamson informed that eviction drives to remove illegally constructed structures and encroachers along the national highway will continue.
He also assured of extending help to NHIDCL whenever the corporation faced problem in the road construction work.
