World Cancer Day observed

Imphal, February 04 2017:
District Health Mission Society, Imphal West, Non-Communicable Disease Cell, Imphal West and National Programme for Preventtion and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease & Stroke (NPCDCS) have jointly observed the World Cancer Day at Community Health Centre, Wangoi today.
Launching of population based screening of common non-communicable disease was also held as part of the programme.
Dr Kh Sashikumar, Additional Director, Health Services, Manipur, Dr H Kulla, CMO, Imphal West, Dr T Bilashini, senior consultant, gynaecologist, City Hospital and Dr Th Somorjit, Deputy Director, ASHA were the presidium members.
Speaking at the programme, Dr Kh Sashikumar said that Cancer can be hardly detected during its early stage.
Since North East India has the highest number of Cancer cases in the country, WHO has a vision to eradicate cancer in India with main emphasis on the North East India.
Some of major causes of Cancer are high consumption of tobacco products, alcohol and oily food, he added.
