Due to acute of shortage of cash in banks located at Noney (Longmai), locals are facing great difficulties to purchase essential commodities, reports our correspondent.
Noney has just tow banks- SBI and Manipur Rural bank.
After the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes on November 8, SBI, Noney Branch so far received only Rs 15 lakh from the Government to cater to the needs of the people.
As such, locals, students and workers of railway line have been going through an untold suffering.
The only ATM booth in Noney is till now non-functional.
When asked about the reason behind the shortage of cash and defunct ATM booth, K Rajeshwor Singh, manager of SBI, Noney Branch said that cash allocated by SBI, Imphal Hqs cannot even meet the requirements of the people let alone providing cash withdrawal from the ATM booth.
"Another reason is that Tamenlong SP is yet to give an order to provide an adequate security from Noney police station for processing remittance," he added.
There are 45 villages in Noney area and a large number of labourers are engaging in construction of National projects.
SBI, Noney Branch and Manipur Rural Bank have more than 30 thousand customers and both the banks have shortage of manpower.
The locals said that more number of ATM booths should be set up in the area for the convenient of the people.
