Hunphun women show the path

THE 24TH Raising Day of Hunphun Shanao Long (HSL) was celebrated on Wednesday with colourful display of indigenous arts at the packed hall and exhibition of assorted items of agro-produces at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Mini-Secretariat in Ukhrul.
Hundreds of Hunphun women in colourful attires from different localities joined hands to make the celebration a success with various competitions and displays.
Joint Director of Education Department, Government of Manipur Drussila Ragui, who graced the function as Chief Guest, exhorted the Hunphun women to be more pro-active in social and humanitarian cause, while saying they have been a significant group in Tangkhul society since time immemorial.
Recalling that in the past Hunphun women were pioneers in different walks of life, Ragui encouraged the present generation to emulate their roles to make greater contribution to the society.
Much to the delight of visitors, women groups from different localities staged a mesmerizing show of traditional attires, flower and agro-produces exhibitions�symbolizing the contribution of women in a society.
For the various competitions and displays organized today, Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner R Sudhan gave away the prizes to the winners.
Hunphun headman HA Wungrampan graced the celebration as Guest of Honour.
In the agro-exhibition, Greenland bagged the first prize while Awontang and Kasomtang won the second and third places respectively.
Kasomtang got the best prize in flower show while Awontang and Tangrei secured the second and the third respectively.
In the traditional attire competition, Tangrei bagged the best prize in Yesterday's category while Tangrei and Phungreitang secured the first and second runner's up position.
In today's category, the best attire went to Wino while Tangrei and Alungtang won the second and third places.
Social activist Edmund Chiphang also exhorted the gathering with special mention on the importance of women in nation building and asked the women to try and be that part in our society.
Today, the audiences were entertained with folksongs, monologues, choreography and special numbers.
The programme was also attended by various social organisation representatives and activists.
