The president and finance secretary of the United Naga People's Council (UNPC) have been apprehended by the Imphal east police commandos from New Chekon area this morning at around 9.25 am along with another 19 year old boy, SDPO, Imphal east Laishram Birbabu claimed in a press meet held at his office chamber today.
The apprehended president identified as Pairson alias Jairus Saishak (31) son of Naogao Saishak of Khamason village and while the general secretary was identified as Yengkhohao Singlai (54) son of late Apheling Singlai of Laihoram village of Ukhrul district.
They were nabbed with another 19 year old boy named Reithan Keishing son of Jonman Keishnig of Laihoram village during a raid by the police commandos who were on alert at New Chekon area following a tip off of serving monetary demand by the outfit some areas in Imphal east, informed the SDPO to the media this afternoon.
During the interrogation, police came to know that the president, Pairson who is popularly known as Max, joined the outfit in June 1999 while the finance secretary Yengkhohao popularly called as Apam joined the UNPC in the month of January this year.
In another separate counter insurgency by the Imphal east police commandos jointly with the troops of 28 Assam Rifles apprehended a high ranking officer of the proscribed KCP today at around 1 pm from Khongman area, SDPO, Birbabu further informed.
The apprehended person was identified as Khuraijam ajit alias Khamba Luwang (42) son of Chaoba of Kwakeithel Makha Leikai.
In the follow up action based on the disclosure made by the activist, the commando team seized one computer set which found drafted press releases of the group in it.
One of the drafted press releases relates with clarification on non-involvement of the group in the killing of professor Md Islamuddin.
Police suspected the apprehended man as Ningamba of the KCP (Ningamba) group.
"Khamba and Ningamba is seems to be one person," the SDPO added.
