ATSUM-T alleges mass deletion of tribals from electioral rolls

The All Tribal Students' Union (ATSUM-Tombing) today expressed serious concern over what they called random mass deletion of names of thousands of tribal people from the state electoral roll.
At a press meet here its office in Nagaram, ATSUM-T publicity secretary Micah Kamei warned that the student body will take up crucial steps to set things right in case the concerned authorities fail to rectify the mass deletion of tribal voters from the electoral list by February 2 .
He accused Manipur Government of slashing the tribal population in the hill districts through manipulation of the voter list.
Kamei also questioned the Government's real motive behind the plan that has sliced a large number of voters from the electoral roll in the hill.
"Names of many people who are still alive have been deleted from the list in the process.
ATSUM really feels wonder about it," he said.
Kamei urged the Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur to correct the gross mistake and take action against those responsible for it.
ATSUM is always ready to deal with such matters in the interest of the hill people, the student leader pledged.
Meanwhile, ATSUM in a separate statement appealed to the state Government to matrialise its demand for decentralization of examination centres for writing improvement/compartmental exam in the hill districts relating to class XII as assured by the Secretary, Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur during the official discussion with representatives of the student body on January 28 this year.
The statement further reminded the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BOSEM) to meet its demand to reinstate the Additional English for class X in lieu of the first language for strictly two academic sessions for the tribal students whose mother tongues are not recognised by the board.
