19 protesters still undergoing treatment

ILPS Medical Helpline has sought financial support from the public for medical expenses of student Haobijam Rison (18) who is currently undergoing treatment after he was critically injured when police fired rubber bullets and tear gas canisters during the stir on Inner Line Permit System.
At a press meet at the office of National Identity Protection Committee (NIPCO), Keishampat, JCILPS Medical Helpline convenor Kshetrimayum Somorendro said 347 protesters have injured so far in the ongoing over two-month old ILPS stir.
Among the injured, 19 are in serious condition in different hospitals in Manipur and other States.
Haobijam Rison, a resident of Khurai Konsam Leikai in Imphal East is one of them.
He sustained various degrees of injuries during the protest on July 10 when he was hit by tear gas canisters and rubber bullets.
Rison's condition is worsening as his whole body is now nearly paralysed.
Initially, he was admitted to RIMS which referred him to Shija Hospital which again recommended the JCIPLS Medical Helpline to take him to an outside hospital for better medical treatment.
He will be taking to Ganga Hospital, Chennai for treatment and he will leave Imphal on September 4 next for the purpose, Somerendro said.
Rison will be accompanied by volunteers of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS), Joint Students Coordinating Committee and JCILPS Student Wing Medical Helpline.
Somorendro made a fervent appeal to the people to kindly donate money for his medical expenses through the JCILPS and Khurai Konsam Leikai.
Uripok Huidrom Leikai resident Samom Nanao, who was also critically hurt in the stir, is presently undergoing treatment in a Guwahati hospital, he said.
Nanao's left eye was injured when a tear gas shell hit him.
He said, as of now, people have extended financial aid of Rs 1,10,000 to the ILPS Medical Helpline and sought more help for the treatment of those injured protesters.
