A large number of angry volunteers from the Coordinating Committee of College Students' Union on Monday picketed the office of Directorate of University & Higher Education at Nityapat Chuthek.
The student protesters occupied the office building and later locked its main gate from outside.
They chanted slogans against the State Government and demanded immediate re-opening of all educational institutes, enforcement of Inner Line Permit System (ILP) and punishment to all police personnel involved in Sapam Robinhood killing.
They held placards that read "We want ILP," We want resumption of normal classes, "We condemn killing of student" and "We condemn closure of educational institutes by Government," .
The protesters threw the key into a drain nearby after the office main gate was being locked.
A team of police arrived at the scene and tried to pacify them.
A police official told the student protesters that the Government is planning to re-open all school and colleges soon.
He also told them that if needed, three or four volunteers would be allowed to meet the Education Minister over the issue.
The protesters then left the site following which the police broke the padlock and opened the main gate of the Education (U) office.
Union co-convenor L Sanatomba told journalists that all offices related with education sector will not be allowed to function until all educational institutes are re-opened.
