Imphal, February 25 2011:
Manipur Peoples' Party (MPP) today called for a pre-poll alliance to root out Congress rule from the state criticizing the O Ibobi led SPF government as an anti-people government formed by a collection of people who are crazy with contract and supply works only.
Speaking at a function at Kuki Inn to felicitate MLA elect K Sarat of Trinamool Congress in the recently held by-election to Konthoujam A/C, MPP president, Nimaichand Luwang said Congress ministers and MLAs are engaged in government contract and supply works, and no development or welfare works for the people have been taken up in its nine year tenure.
The felicitation was organized by the MPP.
Considering that the SPF government has been in power for nearly 10 continuous years, the state should have made marked changes in the field of development.
However, the progress of developmental work witnessed in the state is not upto the expected level.
The government is doing nothing for the welfare of the people.
Most of the MLAs of the ruling front are engaged in contract and supply works.
They have not been able to leave this habit even after becoming MLAs.
He said the Congress cannot win the next elections because electors are fed up with false promises.
The MPP president also charged that MLAs of the ruling front are carrying out works which ought to be done by bureaucrats and officers.
On the other hand, there is the need of changing the mindset of the people.
They should consider sending worthy persons as their representatives to the highest law making body of the state.
He asserted that the time has now come to throw away the Congress from power.
He also said the MPP will work tirelessly to root out the Congress from returning to power in the next general elections to the state Assembly.
MLA elect K Sarat, addressing the gathering, acknowledged the support he got from MPP, BJP and others and also from the people at the time of the bye-election.
"I will do my best for the welfare of the people of my constituency as well as for the people of the state," he said.
