Imphal, August 22 2019:
The All Tribal Rights' Protection Forum Manipur (ATRPFM) will be organising a one day consultative meeting at the mini-conference Hall, TRI on August 24 at 11 am to discuss on matters which are of primary importance to tribal livelihood.
A press release issued by general secretary, ATRPFM stated that the meeting deliberated on village recognition in hill areas of Manipur, 2020-21 house list counting & social economic caste census and Forest Rights Act, 2006 .
It stated that the village recognition or bifurcation of villages in hill areas of the State were dealt by TA & Hills for the past many years.
However, on August 26, 2008, the Principal Secretary (Revenue), GoM issued an office memorandum with instructions that orders relating to creation and/or recognition of villages in hill areas shall be issued by Revenue Department, which is opposed by ATRPFM, it added.
Regarding Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006, which is a very important Act has not been implemented in the State, claimed ATRPFM.
As such, it urged all leaders of tribal civil organisations like UNC, Kuki Inpi, ATSUM, Zeliangrong Baudi, KSO etc and all village chiefs/chairman/headman, social activists to participate the meeting without fail.
