Thoubal, April 21 2018:
Thoubal Divisional Forest Officer RK Amarjit today warned persons involved in illegal mining and felling of trees at Saram Ching (hill), Kairembikhok area, which falls under Gwarok Reserved Forest of serious consequences while cautioning that the department will take up case against any illegal activities.
"The hill (Saram Ching) being a part of protected forest (Gwarok Reserved Forest), illegal miners and those who felled trees in the area may be punished under the Indian Forest Act 1927 and Forest Conservation Act 1980," he said.
The DFO furthered that the High Court of Manipur in its orders dated August 30, 2017 and October 11, 2017 (PIL No 25 of 2017) had banned land mining and felling of trees in the Reserved Forest areas (privately owned or Government owned).
RK Amarjit also appealed people in the district to refrain from illegal activities inside the Reserve Forest areas and help preserve the forests.
