IIIT on PPP model to be set up at Senapati: CM assures

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has announced that an Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) would be established on public-private partnership (PPP) model at Senapati district very soon.
He was speaking as Chief Guest of the inaugural function of a boys' hostel at the permanent complex of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Manipur located at Langol here today.
Chief Minister further said that the State Government is striving to enhance human resources of the State by setting up more number of technical educational institutes.
However, such premier institutes would not be confined only to Imphal area.
Other districts of the State would also have suitable educational institutes.
As part of such policy, the State Government is preparing to set up an IIIT at Senapati, he noted.

Ibobi further maintained that the State Government has sent the proposal for setting up the IIIT to the Union HRD Ministry and soon an agreement would be signed in this regard.
He also stressed on developing roads, transport, communication, healthcare and other infrastructures in the State.
Chief Minister said that the Jiribam-Tupul railway project is going in full swing and it would be completed within the target period.
The tunnels and bridges are being constructed with utmost quality and engineering expertise.
On completion of the State's railway project, two of the rail bridges would likely become the "highest bridges" in the world and the 11-kilometre-long tunnel at Tupul as the longest tunnel in the world.
Such places would definitely become tourist hotspots, Ibobi stated.
He also expressed optimism that the State's economy can be boosted through tourism industry by developing various tourist centres in the scenic landscape of the State.
Ibobi further advised the students of NIT-Manipur to work hard and make significant contributions to development of the country in science and technology.
The inaugural function was also attended by Education Minister M Okendro as President and Chairman of Board of Governors, NIT-M Prof YS Rajan as Guest of Honour.
About 80 students would be accommodated in the newly inaugurated boys' hostel of NIT-Manipur.
