Artistes' Day observed at MDU

Imphal, February 18 2011:
The Manipur Dramatic Union observed Artistes Day today at MDU hall, Yaiskul Police Lane, Imphal.
Prof Lokendro Arambam, president Arian Theatre Imphal, renowned artiste Lourembam Pishak, Natya Bhusan and Kshetrimayum Ibohal, president MDU graced the function as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
In his speech, Prof Lokendro talked on the life of the artistes in the state, their livelihood, their role in society and the state government's policy for them.
In the budget of the Central government, it includes funds for the welfare of artistes in the North East states, he added.
The Artistes Day being observed by MDU every year will give a common platform for the artistes to unite and work for the welfare of the artiste.
Offering of floral tribute to deceased artistes of yesteryear marked the observation.
Brahmacharimayum Bhavananda and Bachaspatimayum Surjamukhi were honoured with the Khomdram Dhanachandra Memorial Award as part of the function.
The awards consist of a shawl, citation, walking stick and a cash of Rs 1000 .
Artistes of MDU also presented 'Abhimanyu' as part of the function.
