All Manipur Sudents'Union will be organising 18 anniversary of Manipuri Languages Day at its office on Aug 20. Since the demand for inclusion of Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule started, the student body has been playing active role by taking up various steps including submission of memorandum to the Government of India, said a release issued by AMSU.
The student body had even organised a sit-in protest in front of the Parliament House in Delhi to press the Government for inclusion of Meitei Lon in the 8th Schedule, it said.
After initiating various agitations by AMSU, the Government of India finally declared the inclusion of Manipuri language along with Nepali and Konkani languages in the Eight Scedule of the Constitution of India, the release said.
Expressing gratitude to all individuals who have contributed towards the strife to preserve the language and culture of the land, the student body appealed all to participate in the occasion to commemorate the day when Meitei Lon was included in the 8th Schedule.
