Imphal, February 15 2015:
Ending the long impasse on the admission process of Class-I in four Catholic schools of the state, the Catholic Educational Society, Manipur (CESM) and Joint Students' Coordinating Committee (JSCC) of AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS have agreed to conduct lottery instead of the written test for admission.
Talking to media persons at the office of MSF here on Sunday, a member of JSCC Thiyam Naresh said that the agreement for holding lottery for admission to Class-I in Little Flower School, Nirmalabas School, Catholic School and St Joseph School was brought during a meeting between the representatives of CESM and JSCC held on February 13 at St Joseph School, Sangaiprou.
A judgement of the Supreme Court passed on May 6, 2014 said that the educational institutions run by religious and language minority bodies have the liberty to adopt any admission procedure, and the private unaided minority schools do not come under the purview of Right to Education (RTE) Act.
However, the CESM decided to conduct lottery instead of written test in the public interest, the JSCC member noted.
Meanwhile, various flying squads have been formed by the JSSC to monitor the examination centres of the High School Leaving Certificate Examination and Higher Secondary Examination to be conducted by Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) and Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) respectively.
JSSC member Naresh said that the flying squads would be monitoring the examination centres after obtaining required permission from the officials of BSEM and COHSEM, and appealed to the authorities concerned to render cooperation to the JSCC in preventing use of unfair means during the examinations.
