Rally denounces crimes against humanity

Taking serious note over increasing and systematic crimes against people of Northeastern states in general and the people of Manipur in particular, a mass rally was taken from from Yurembam Maning Leikai to Patsoi Part-III today.
Organised jointly by Conflict Widows Forum (COWF), Domestic Violence Survivors' Forum (DVSF), Applied Biotech Farmers' Club (ABFC), Christian Network of Positive People (CNP+), Self Support Group (SSG), Helping Hand Centre (HHC), Village Women Co-ordination Committee (VWCOC) and Women Action for Development (WAD), the rally was flagged off by retired Superintendent of Police S Leirenjao from Yurembam Maning Leikai.
A large number of people, mostly women, who came from different parts of Manipur participated in the rally carrying placards inscribed with slogans like 'Stop recruitment of child soldiers', 'Let the widows and orphans live with dignity and liberty', 'Stop racial discrimination of NE people', 'Stop preparation for genocide', 'Deliver justice', 'Enough is enough', 'Stop terrorising', 'Stop systematic harassment of people from North East', etc.

Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the rally, Secretary of WAD Sobita Mangsatabam pointed out that incidents of crimes against Manipuri people has increased manifold over the last few years.
In the current year itself, many Manipuri students studying outside have been killed, many innocent kids have been trafficking and many women have been reported missing.
So, it is high time to stop all these crimes before it is too late.
She also lamented that apart from registering the cases, police have not solve any of the cases nor the government taken up any action.
Reported missing of many women is also a serious issue with implication of possible human trafficking racket in Manipur that need to be tackled while there is still time, Sobita pointed out , while calling upon all the people and government machineries for co-operation and support in this endeavour.
After a protest rally concluded at the community hall of Patsoi Part-II, a public meeting convened where many important personalities shared their views.
Resolutions adopted during the public meeting were subsequently forwarded to President of India in the form of a memorandum.
The copy of the memorandum had also been reportedly forwarded to President of Indian National Congress Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, Governor of Manipur Gurbachan Jagat and Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh.
