Imphal, May 05 2022:
CAF&PD minister L Susindro has said that he will propose to the central government for replacing the rice provided to BPL families under National Food Security Act (NFSA) with local rice.
In an exclusive interview with The People's Chronicle, Susindro said that he will make his best efforts for ensuring transparency and accountability in the functioning of the departments under his charge as well as in other key areas of the government.
While reiterating about the proposal to replace the imported rice being distributed under NFSA with local rice, he concede that success of his vision will require surplus production of the local rice.
The plan will work only after FCI purchases local rice for PDS supply in the state for which he will pursue the matter with the central government, the minister said.
Once the ministry gives its approval, he will discuss the plan to increase rice production in the state with the chief minister and the minister concerned.
It will not only help in improving economy of the state but also provide better quality rice to the NFSA beneficiaries of the state, Susindro said.
On the other hand, water is one of the basic needs for human and the government is taking up measures to provide household water connection under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) to all.
The second term of N Biren government is putting its focus on completing projects initiated during the first term, he said.
Implementing agencies have been asked to complete the ongoing projects under JJM before the schedule time, he said and added that review meetings will be conducted by collecting monthly and yearly reports.
