Imphal, June 01 2017:
Many houses, paddy fields and fish farms in Lilong have been flooded after one of the shutters of Nungei Ningthibi Dam was washed away by heavy rain yesterday at around 7.30 pm.
Y Antas Khan who contested in the 11th State Assembly election as an Independent candidate inspected the flooded areas today.
Speaking to media persons, Y Antas Khan said that Nungei Ningthibi Dam was constructed during the regime of Congress Government.
He alleged that the shutter got washed away due to absence of quality control in its construction and urged the new Government to repair the dam at the earliest and provide relief materials including medicines to the victims hit by the flood.
Md Habibullah, general secretary of Anjuman Islahi Muahsharah claimed that many paddy fields in Ningthibi, Dolaithabi and Khekman have been submerged under water following the incident.
He estimated that around 200 acres of paddy fields in the areas may be submerged under water if heavy shower of rain continues unabated.
A flood relief work was conducted by locals of the areas in which personnel of Lilong police station, Assam Rifles and club members took part.
