Kakching district bifurcating Thoubal district demanded

The 3rd Public Hearing on the Re-organisation of Administrative and Police Boundaries (CRA&PB) was held at the conference hall of the Chief Secretary's office, Old Secretariat today.
The Joint Non- Government Voluntary Organisation, Kakching, representatives of Lois, District Sports Association and leaders of Sahitya Seva Samiti, Kakching demanded that the 519 sq km area of Thoubal district should be bifurcated into two and convert Kakching sub-division into a full fledged district, at the Public Hearing which was chaired by the Chief Secretary, DS Poonia.
At the public meeting which was organized by the Committee on Re-organisation of Administrative and Police Boundaries (CRA&PB), the President of the Joint Non- Government Voluntary Organisation, Kakching said that Thoubal district is the largest district in the state with a population of 4,20,517.The district occupies an area of 519 sq km.
All the schemes for this district come through the DC.
But unfortunately, the DC alone cannot satisfy all the peoples residing in the district.
He went on to say that a person from Churchandpur finds it convenient to go Moreh via the Kakching road and interestingly this road is the shortest route from Churchandpur to Moreh.
Apart from this Kakching sub-division is regarded as an ideal place for commercial as well as educational purpose.
It is also the headquarters of 50% of Chandel districts population.
He was also of the view that it would be advisable on the part of the concern authority to put the various new tribal villages under Kakching sub-division which is illegally being treated as part of Chandel district without the knowledge of the state Revenue department.
This should also be corrected at the earliest possible time.
These villages should also come under the proposed Kakching district.
Ex MLA of Chingai, AS Arther speaking on the occasion said that Sadar Hills district should come into existence taking into consideration the district boundary as have existed when Manipur was merged into the Indian Union in the year 1949 .
Social Advance Movement also said that district re-organisation should be done on the basis of administrative convenience and it cannot be done merely on ethnic lines.
The Chiefs and Chairmen of SDC circle villages and the various organizations airing their views said that the Sadar Hills right from 1971 has had its own boundary.
It has not came up all of a sudden.
Sadar Hills district could not be re-organised or made into a revenue district.
Rather it should be made into a full fledged district.
There is no problem in the administration and Police Boundary.
As such no changes can be made in the existing boundary under the Hill Areas ADC Act, 1971, they further said.
The Public Hearing was also attended by DGP Y Joykumar and Under Secretary, Revenue department, Balkrishna Haisnam.
The next Public Hearing will be held at the same venue on October 8 .
