Imphal, July 29 2017:
The Thadou Students’ Association (TSA) has informed all concerned that it will no longer involve in the proposed ISTV programme in Thadou/Kuki/Thadou-Kuki due to undue interference from a militant group, who have threatened TSA through a vernacular daily and other means over the matter .
In a statement, TSA said it stands by the truth and fact to date that the nomenclature ‘Kuki’ is the collective identity of many cognate tribes, including Thadou, whereas Thadou, which is also a recognised tribe of Manipur, is the identity of those who speak the same language and have the same culture since time immemorial .
TSA appreciates the initiative of ISTV to launch programmes in various languages, such as Thadou, Tangkhul etc as part of its project to promote cultural relations among the different communities of Manipur.
TSA played its bit to make the project a reality and also had taken a stand that the name of the programme in Thadou should be named ‘Thadou programme’ as done with other existing broadcasting programmes such as ‘All India Radio Thadou programme’ and DDK Thadou etc, it said .
However, unfortunately, a SoO signatory group, unduly interfered in the matter and threatened TSA and its leaders with dire consequences in relation to the name of the proposed programme, effectively asking TSA not to be involved in it while issuing a diktat on what the name of the programme has to be called, TSA said .
