Thoubal, November 28 2017:
Women vendors at Thoubal Bazar, today closed Thoubal bazar and condemned the ongoing construction work of Thoubal Municipal Council to add new plots in the building.
The move to shut down the market came when talks between representatives of women vendors and chairperson of TMC failed to bring an agreement.
It may be mentioned that the work of TMC to close the 25x25 feet ventilation and add new plots triggered the ongoing agitation.
A meeting which was later conducted by the vendors condemned the TMC and persons who helped TMC in the process, reports our correspondent.
The women vendors further alleged that the Thoubal Municipal Council duped them in signing documents which cleared them to build.
It further alleged said that signatures of the vendors were collected in order to build 'toilets' for the market.
The meeting also condemned conversion of the 'Control Room 2' to shop and biasness in cleaning work.
The meeting warned TMC to reconsider and stop the ongoing construction work by 10 am tomorrow.
It further cautioned that the vendors will be compelled to dismantle the work if Thoubal Municipal Council does not meet the deadline.
