'Inclusion of Sanamahi religion in minority is being reviewed'

Imphal, August 26 2011:
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today told the House that a Committee of Officers is reviewing whether Sanamahi religion can be included in minority or not.
The CM was giving reply to a question moved by MLA Dr Ng Bijoy seeking the status of Sanamahi religion in the state.
In his CM said that people who follow Sanamahi religion are giving general and OBC status according to their annual family income.
Although the total population of people who follow Sanamahi religion according to the 2001 census report is 2,22,338, the exact population of Sanamahi religion as per the report of 2011 census is not known till now.
The decision to include the Sanamahi religion should be taken by the Centre.
In reply to a question of MLA O Joy on the appointment of the 18 martyrs of the June 18 incidents which the CM had assured, Ibobi told the House that the state cabinet will discuss the particulars of the appointment to be made and its guidelines if they will be appointed under the existing rules or under a separate provision.
MLA I Hemochandra also expressed his desire to give special consideration during the appointment of the kin of the 18 martyrs.
